End of Day Journal (9-13-10)

Summary:

Another interesting day:

I had a lot of stops this morning. I started trading a little earlier than I normally do, and most of these were stops that kept going the other direction. A few backed off and headed back in the trade direction. Several of them had 'iffy' spreads. I included nearly all the charts from 9:55 to 10:10 to offer some examples. It is very difficult to switch direction or to keep watching these. Pfft... but I had something like 8 positions on at one point... I am not sure how many I had, but I should probably try to be more judicious or careful.

Looking at the scatter graph, that chunk from 9:55 to 10:35 is clustered on the bottom side, I would give the rest of the day to the positive side. The big problem was that I did not do very well on my morning exits, very big gains that I let come back, a few all the way to stops. I need to try and be sensitive to momo flashes and learn to get out on strength.  Great workout today though. I managed to keep it fun, I think I pulled the afternoon very well considering the market back and forth.

I am including the table data for the largest profits and losses for a sense of which PnL were large with respect to full lot size.

Here are the largest losses. Looks like I went out of bounds on a few of them - mostly due to spreads I believe.:

Here are the largest profits. This set the tone for the day - I left quite a bit of money on the table:

Again - the day was fun and I was content to let it remain so. I think that keeping it fun was what let me tune into the dull-bounce-around afternoon session. I have a feeling that if I can keep the fun attitude/approach up I will soak it in and learn much more efficiently. It feels good.

Trade well.

Details:

ADS; Big candle kept me out, but I had a feeling it wanted to go down. Seemed to be keyed in pretty well:

BXP; Let $0.48 come... and go...

CMI; Over a dollar from my stop - this happened more often than not today:

DO; Nearly a dollar from the stop - I am sure couldn't of nailed it, but plenty of room:

ERY; Blah - icky price action. I had no business being in this one:

FSLR; Not a bad $0.60:

LZ; another buck and change from the stop... just touched it...:

MSFT; rallied on something at EOD. Not a huge move, but you never know. Might be one to watch tomorrow?

SPG; $0.45 too late...;

POT; missed the pop and left $0.40 on the table:

V:

VNO; $0.30 on the table and stopped... keep watching...:

WHR; this one came up early this morning, but I didn't trade it. Then it made a great ascending triangle that I called live, but failed to trade on:

WLT; an early morning that fizzled:

WYNN; over $0.80 from the stop - plenty of room:

  1. real nice job finding the movers today. entries are excellent. i think i am going to work on just timing the entries the best i can. and try to let the trade work. i can work on my exits down the road. or maybe i will scale out half at a signal and just let the rest work. who knows, first i have to be properly awake to do any of this, lol.
